Paul’s Treehouse Addition

After over decade living in two bedroom bungalow in South Austin, Paul, a director and UT film professor wanted to explore adding on to his home to utilize the depth of his property.  Paul contacted Murray Legge about designing an addition and after some initial research it became apparent that there was a slender bow tie shaped portion of the lot that was the only buildable area between a protected heritage tree and the side property line. The constraints of the site and Murray’s design presented some very particular construction challenges including integrating a steel frame within our timber framing to support the floor to ceiling windows on the north wall, constructing a dramatic folding glass wall in the master bedroom, and respecting the space of the beautiful heritage live oak.
